Connecting HUDWAY Cast with your iPhone

There are two ways you can connect HUDWAY Cast to your smartphone — wirelessly (via Wi-Fi) and wired (using enclosed USB OTG cable).

When you connect your phone wirelessly, you can plug it in the cigarette lighter adaptor to prevent the battery from running flat because of active use of GPS.

Please note that you will need to keep the iPhone screen on while mirroring the data. If it locks, the mirroring will shut off, and you will need to reconnect the devices after you unlock your phone screen.

Wireless connection:

Until recently, we've been using Airplay to wirelessly mirror the image from the smartphone to HUDWAY Cast. However, as starting iOS 12 the connection proved to be far from stable, we're switching to another means of mirroring — in simple terms, it records your screen and trasmits it to HUDWAY Cast.

You will need to have HUDWAY Cast app installed on your smartphone to use this new type of connection. Now, please follow these simple steps:

1. Power on HUDWAY Cast and press the switch mode button until you see the apple logo and the signature "Waiting to connect to an iOS device" on the HUDWAY Cast device screen:

2. Access your phone Settings  >  Wi-Fi and connect to HUDWAY-XXXXX network.
A yellow signature "No Internet connection" will appear under the network name — please disregard it. HUDWAY Cast is recognised as a network, but in practice it doesn't allow access to Internet, which is why you see this signature in your iPhone settings.

3. Pull up the Control Center panel from the bottom of your screen and long tap the Screen recording:

4. You'll see the apps you can broadcast through. Select HUDWAY Cast and tap Start Broadcast:

You can now launch any app to get it mirrored to HUDWAY Cast. If you're willing to use HUDWAY Cast app itself, you don't need to follow steps 3 & 4.

The great thing about using Screen recording to mirror your smartphone screen is that in most of the apps it doesn't interfere with the music — you can therefore select the output source (AUX, your car media, etc.) to play the audio.

Regretfully, Apple Music stops playing when screen recording starts. We will be seeking for the solution and hope to find one soon.

Wired connection:

Wired connection still uses Airplay to do the mirroring, and that may be less reliable than wireless mirroring via Screen Recording.

1. Power on HUDWAY Cast and press the switch mode button until you see the apple logo and the signature "Waiting to connect to an iOS device" on the HUDWAY Cast device screen:

2. Plug the enclosed USB OTG cable into the connection port of HUDWAY Cast.

3. Plug the phone charging cable into the USB OTG cable receptacle.

4. Tap “Trust” in the pop-up message on your iPhone, asking you whether you agree to trust HUDWAY Cast.

5. Access your iPhone Settings > Personal Hotspot, enable it and wait until the hotspot blue band appears on top of the phone screen.

6. Your iPhone will ask you how you're willing the hotspot to operate. Select "USB only".

7. Access Control Center, long tap Screen Mirroring, and select HUDWAY-XXXXX in the list of devices.
